The Not By Bread Alone faith-sharing group, formed at Daylesford Abbey in the 1990s, is focusing on the theme of “Women in the Church” for their meetings this year, and has partnered with the Women’s Sacred Music Project, founded in Philadelphia in 1995 to commission and promote sacred music by female composers, to present a screening of Lydia’s Giving, a chamber work for choir, instruments, and solo dance, at the SKS Parish Center on Saturday, November 18th at 6:30pm. Dinner will be provided, followed by a welcome by SKS Music Director, Dr. Ted Latham, and comments by the work’s composer, Dr. Cynthia Folio, and lyricist, Dr. Susan Albertine. A recording of the piece, which is about the Biblical figure of Lydia, the dyer of purple cloth, will then be screened for attendees, and the dance part of Lydia will be recreated live by lead dancer Grace Stern, who originated the role of Lydia for the 25thanniversary WSMP premiere at the Abbey.
