PHILADELPHIA MARCH FOR LIFE
PHILLY’S BIGGEST BABY SHOWER
Speaking of the important roles that fathers and mothers play in their children’s lives, the first is to welcome them into the world. Tragically, so many people today do not recognize the infant in the womb as a unique child who has the same right to life as everyone else does. We Catholics do, however, and we lead the effort in protecting and promoting all human life from the moment of conception to natural death. We also support countless pro-life organizations that help women who find themselves in difficult times as they struggle to take care of their newborn child.
One of these organizations is the Pro-Life Union of Greater Philadelphia which, in collaboration with other member organizations, serves the Greater Philadelphia community by advocating for the right to life for the unborn and by supporting mothers and their children during and after pregnancy. One of the ways the Pro-Life Union accomplishes this is by providing mothers with necessary items for their newborn children. The Pro-Life Union is sponsoring a Mass, March for Life and baby shower on Saturday, 22 June 2024, beginning with a 9:00am Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of Ss. Peter and Paul, followed by a 10:30am March to Independence Mall where there will be a rally for life. Everyone is invited to bring baby items to the Cathedral. INTRODUCING OUR NEW SCHOOL PRINCIPAL:
A VERY FAMILIAR FACE FOR MANY OF US
During her short tenure as our school principal, Adria Crowley has done an outstanding job in leading our school in new directions. Most notably, she has overseen the hiring of additional teachers’ aides in our lower grades and introduced a variety of electives for our students in the upper grades. Unfortunately, she now needs to tend to some ongoing health issues. We assure her of our prayers for a return to good health.
As I mentioned in my article in April, we immediately began to work with Mrs. Bernadette Dougherty, the archdiocesan Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools, and a search committee to initiate a search for Adria’s successor. Providentially, a parishioner known to many of you was interested in the position and we are very happy to announce that Jeanne Mulvanerty has accepted our invitation to become our new principal. Jeanne and her family have been parishioners for almost 30 years. All four of her children attended our school. I first got to know Jeanne when I arrived in 2011. She had been the president of our Home & School Board since 2009 and remained in that important position until 2014. I was very impressed with her enthusiasm and outstanding leadership in that role. I was delighted when she became a member of our school’s Board of Limited Jurisdiction in 2019 when once again, she demonstrated great enthusiasm for and dedication to our beloved school.
Besides being a wife to Mark and mother to Maeve, Jack, Ryan and Nicholas, Jeanne had an exciting career in sales and marketing after graduating from Fordham University in 1991. But, she felt drawn to education and received a master’s degree in education from Cabrini University ten years ago. She has since been a teacher and administrator in local schools, excelling in both roles. She will be able to draw on her parenting, sales, marketing, teaching and educational administrative background to benefit our school, making it even stronger than it already is today. I ask you to join me in welcoming Jeanne as our new principal and pray that God will continue to bless her and our school so that our students may grow in their knowledge and love of God and neighbor, following Jesus’ teachings and example, as they prepare for their vocations and careers in an ever more challenging world.
