I realize it feels like Fall Sports just started but we’re right around the corner from basketball season. We’re happy to announce that CYO Basketball Registration for 5th through 12 grades is now open (link below). SKS CYO Basketball is for kids who are currently enrolled in school at SKS or who are enrolled at PREP/CCD at SKS or OLA Parishes.

Please note that registration will close on November 1 for 5th through 8th grades (High School will remain open until Thanksgiving). We anticipate having over 20 teams again this season (23 total in 2023) and it’s imperative that we have an accurate headcount to manage team rosters and maximum playing time for each kid. I’ll be sending out plenty of reminders, but we will not be able to add kids after November 1. Please register ASAP.

Below is some information related to the upcoming basketball season and important dates:

  • JV is 5th and 6th grades
  • Varsity is 7th and 8th grades
  • High School is 9th to 12 grades (no tryouts for High School)
  • There will be one “Wildcat” team for each JV Boys, JV Girls, Varsity Boys, & Varsity Girls.
  • The Wildcat Team plays in the most competitive CYO division and are comprised of the most advanced players at each level (JV Boys, JV Girls, Varsity Boys, Varsity Girls).
  • There will be tryouts only for the Wildcat Teams. If your kid does not want to play on a Wildcat team, they do not need to attend tryouts. All kids that are registered will be placed on a team.
  • We will attempt to limit all teams to 10 kids or less this season to allow for maximum playing time during games.
  • The non-wildcat teams have equal playing time requirements for all players. JV Wildcat teams have a minimum of one quarter of playing time for each player for all regular season games (not playoffs).  There is no minimum playing time for Varsity Wildcat Teams.
  • All teams will be have at least one practice per week. We’ll do our best to try to accommodate teams that would like an additional practice each week.

Tryout Dates/Time for the Wildcat Teams are below:

  • Monday 11/4: 6:15 to 7:30 (JV Girls)
  • Monday 11/4: 7:45 to 9:00 (Varsity Girls)
  • Tuesday 11/5: 6:15 to 7:30 (JV Boys)
  • Tuesday 11/5: 7:45 to 9:00 (Varsity Boys)
  • Wednesday 11/6: 6:15 to 7:15 (JV Girls Call Back)
  • Wednesday 11/6: 7:45 to 8:45 (Varsity Girls Call Back)
  • Thursday 11/7: 6:15 to 7:15 (JV Boys Call Back)
  • Thursday 11/7: 7:45 to 8:45 (Varsity Boys Call Back)

We hope to finalize all team rosters and communicate them to everyone by Sunday 11/10. The Wildcat teams will start practice the week of 11/10 while the non-wildcat teams will start the week of 11/17.
