Fifth Sunday of Lent and COVID-19 during these unusal times

The Season of Lent is given to use every year to recognize and admit how we have drifted away from God and then to turn back to him as we prepare to accompany his son through his suffering, death and Resurrection.  It is a time to focus again on the eternal life God promises us rather than remain caught up in pursuing momentary pleasures here on earth.

Lent always falls during spring – after all, that’s what the word “lent” means – and this is, for most of us, a very […]

FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT

Good morning, everyone; welcome to those who joined in this live streaming after Mass started. I hope you are keeping well in this very stressful time.  Fortunately, modern technology allows us to come together – not in person but over the internet – as a faith community to worship our God.  This is a time when we need to come to God and support each other as his faithful people.  Modern technology also makes it really easy for us to understand that what we’re experiencing in our time isn’t something […]

New Directives and Guidelines in Response to COVID-19

On Tuesday, 17 March, all parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Philadelphia received the following two announcements:

ARCHBISHOP NELSON J. PÉREZ ANNOUNCES THE SUSPENSION OF
ALL PUBLIC MASSES IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF PHILADELPHIA
EFFECTIVE AT NOON TOMORROW

Today, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced that Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez has suspended all public Masses in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia effective at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18th and until further notice.  Last week, the Archbishop dispensed the faithful from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass.  Both decisions were made in response to the growing […]

Third Sunday of Lent

It is good for us to be here.  As COVID-19 continues to upend our lives, leading to both our federal and state governments to declare a state of emergency, and our archdiocesan leaders to suspend all parish activities with the exception of celebrating the sacraments that are so central to our faith, it is good for us to be here.  And, as we all watch with great concern the continuing roller coaster ride of the stock market and kick ourselves for not selling out when it had reached its highest […]

Welcome Archbishop Nelson J. Perez

Last month, our archdiocese welcomed Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez at the Cathedral Basilica of Ss. Peter and Paul as he was installed as our new archbishop.  At the end of this month – in two weeks – we will be privileged to welcome him here in our own church as he celebrates Mass for Deanery 2 on Monday, 30 March.  As he mentioned at the installation Mass, Abp. Pérez wants to travel throughout the archdiocese to listen and learn from all of us.  One of the ways that he will […]

Second Sunday in Lent

Just a few weeks ago, the stock market was flourishing.  The Dow Jones Industrial Average hit its all-time high of 29,551 points on 12 February; that was less than a month ago.  And yet, that seems to be a world away, doesn’t it, and now it resembles a roller coaster, with wild swings up and down – mostly down – as the coronavirus, officially known as COVID-19 or even more correctly SARS-CoV-2, interrupts trade and travel for so many and has us all concerned for our health and the health […]

TAKE A LEAP FOR SKS

If you missed last Saturday’s Take a Leap for SKS First Annual Fund Party you missed the party of the year!  Over 400 alumni, parents and grandparents of alumni, parishioners and other supporters of our great school enjoyed catching up with each other and watching a terrific video that had been produced just for the occasion.  I encourage you to watch this video; it will give you an insight into the spirit of our school as reported by students, parents and teachers.  You can find this video on both our […]
