Melissa Brun is a professional cellist and freelance teaching artist based in the Greater Philadelphia area. She holds a Bachelor of Music and a Performer’s Certificate from SUNY Purchase College Conservatory and has served on faculty at Millersville University and the University of the Arts. She currently maintains a private studio and works extensively with young musicians and families.
Melissa has performed and soloed with various orchestras and choral associations throughout the Philadelphia region and served as Manager of the Chester County Youth Orchestra from 2020–2025. An avid pit musician, she has performed at professional theaters including the Walnut Street Theatre, Fulton Opera House, and American Music Theatre, and has played with Broadway touring companies such as Cinderella and Matilda. She has also soloed with Broadway artists Kristin Chenoweth and Jonathan Groff.
Beyond the classical stage, Melissa was a founding member of the chamber-folk sextet The Sound Accord and performed with the Irish trio Maggie’s Boots. As co-creator of the children’s music duo Big Idea Committee, she blends musical theatre vocals and live cello into interactive performances for children ages 4–8—alongside everyone’s favorite musical friend, Karl the Cello.
Melissa has been a String Clinician with D’Addario Orchestral since 2018, presenting workshops for students and educators nationwide. A veteran clinician, she has presented at ASTA, PMEA, DMEA, and MMEA conferences and has worked with students at more than 150 schools across the country.
She lives in Phoenixville, PA, with her husband, Chris, daughter, Hazel, Karl the Cello, and their cat, Mac.
